The HTC Desire 500 was announced earlier this year, and despite being available as a SIM-free phone through an online retailer, the phone has never made it out onto the high street before. That’s now changed, as Carphone Warehouse has added the phone to its range, and is selling an exclusive white model.
While it’s not quite as high-spec as the HTC One or One Mini, the Desire 500 is still a great little phone, particularly if you don’t want to spend too much money. Its screen measures 4.3-inches and has a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, while a quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor running at 1.2GHz powers the Android 4.1.2 operating system. It also has 1GB of RAM, so it should be capable of running most apps available in the Google Play store.
An 8-megapixel camera with an LED flash and 720p video recording is on the back of the phone, which measures 9.9mm thick, and a decent 1.6-megapixel video call camera is on the front. Completing the spec list is 4GB of memory and a microSD card slot, GPS, DLNA, 3G, and Beats Audio sound technology.
Carphone Warehouse is giving the Desire 500 away for free on all tariffs, with the cheapest monthly option coming through TalkMobile at £15 per month, complete with 200 texts, 50 minutes of call time, and 100MB of data. Step up and pay £17 per month with Orange, and you’ll get 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB of data. A much better deal.
The black HTC Desire 500 should be making it onto other networks in the future, but don’t forget, if you want the white one you’ll need to visit Carphone Warehouse.
