Sony’s sleek Xperia Tablet Z was one of the stars of Mobile World Congress in February, where it was announced the device would be leaving Japan and go on sale internationally. Since then it has come up for pre-order with Sony directly, and this week it can be found on store shelves throughout the country. So, if you didn’t place an order for one with Sony, where is the best deal to be found?
First, let’s remind ourselves why you should want one anyway. The Xperia Tablet Z is a slim and light tablet, weighing 495 grams and measuring 6.9mm thick, which runs a slightly modified version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The 10.1-inch screen has a high definition 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, and a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor with 2GB of RAM runs the show. Other features include an 8 megapixel camera, 16BG or 32GB of memory, a microSD card slot, and the option of 3G/4G connectivity.
Sony will charge you £399 for the 16GB model, £449 for the 32GB, or £499 for the 16GB with 3G/4G connectivity. PCWorld has the same 16GB deal, while Clove Technology has the 16GB 3G/4G tablet for £499 as well. The O2 network has the 16GB 3G/4G Xperia Tablet Z for £499, but it comes with a free Pay As You Go SIM card, plus £22 to spend on the Sony Entertainment Network.
At the moment then, it’s O2 with the best deal on the 4G version, but the price is the same across the board for the basic 16GB Wi-Fi tablet. If you do decide to pick one up, and it’s a great device, expect delivery to come around the end of the month.
