Nokia says it’s still innovating, will prove it at an event on October 22

Nokia October 22 InvitationNokia has tweeted about an upcoming event set for October 22, but has kept quiet about what we may see unveiled on the day. It published the invitation itself on its Twitter account, but it’s as cryptic as you’d expect, saying only that innovation will be reinvented.

The invitation shows a desert with some skiers skiing down the dunes, and according to the @evleaks Twitter account, Nokia may be holding the event in Abu Dhabi – hence the desert scene. This could be the final press event, at least related to mobile hardware, Nokia will hold, following Microsoft’s purchase of the Finnish firm’s devices division.

So what could it show off on the day? For several months, rumours have centered on the Lumia 1520, which could be a Windows Phone powered smartphone/tablet hybrid. That means a big screen, and if the leaked specs are correct, Nokia’s not holding back, as it could have a massive 6-inch display with a 1080p resolution. A quad-core processor could be on duty, along with a camera similar to the one fitted to the Lumia 1020.

Currently, Windows Phone doesn’t support these mega specs, so the Lumia 1520 may be the launchpad for the next version of Windows Phone, that’s expected to bring the OS right up to date. The rumours haven’t stopped there either, as a Nokia Windows RT tablet could join the Lumia 1520 on stage too.

Of course, at the moment all this is speculation, and we’re not going to know for sure what Nokia has planned until October 22.
