Could these two be related? First, Google announces an event for July 24, but doesn’t give any hints as to what it will be unveiling, and then we get a leaked document indicating the new Nexus 7 tablet will be coming very soon. Doesn’t sound like a coincidence to us.
The leaked document was published by Engadget.com, and shows an internal document from a U.S. retail store which says the, “New Google Nexus 7″ will be coming to its stores. Apparently, stocks of the tablet will be arriving on July 20, but that isn’t necessarily the release date, as that could come soon afterwards.
How soon? Google has sent out invitations to an event for July 24, which fits in very nicely with the arrival of the Nexus 7’s stock. The invite doesn’t give anything away, saying only that Google’s Senior VP of Android and Chrome, Sundar Pichai, will be hosting, and that it will be livestreamed on YouTube.
Google didn’t make any major product announcements at its developer conference in May, a departure from previous years, so we’re waiting for news of not only the Nexus 7 replacement, but a new version of Android too. It’s traditional for Google to launch a new product alongside the latest version of Android, so the new tablet may end up having Android 4.3 installed.
It’s all speculation at the moment, although rumours have put the Nexus 7 2’s unveiling for the end of July, but we’ve less than a week before we find out for sure what Google’s planning. We’ll bring you all the news on the day.
