New iPhone leaks increase, suggesting impending release

iPhone 5 PrototypeInterest in the Apple iPhone is at an all-time high, as the new model is expected to be released in the next few months, but as usual with a new Apple product, no-one really knows anything solid about it.

That hasn’t stopped the rumours from gathering though, and these have accelerated over the weekend, bringing not only a selection of new images, but a new video and another possible release date too.

The new pictures are of a partially assembled phone — meaning there isn’t anything inside — that provides our best look at what the next iPhone could look like yet. The smaller dock connector is there, as is the larger display and the relocated headphone port.

It can also be seen in the video below. The phone has been made up from individually purchased parts, all said to be from the next iPhone. The design is going to split opinion, but the back panel sharing the same metallic look as the antenna band is a considerable improvement over previous images.

There’s no guarantee that this is the next iPhone though, as Apple is known to try many different prototype devices, and could even be using this phone to throw us all off their tracks.

So when will it be out? September 21 has already been talked about as the release date, and now a source speaking to iMore indicates that the launch event will take place on September 12. The report also says that Apple will release the much-talked about iPad Mini, as well as a redesigned iPod Touch.

If that’s the case, then we’ve got around six weeks to go. Will more images of this phone arrive before then, or will a different design turn up just to confuse us?
