Massive Lumia 1520 ready for release on December 6

Lumia 1520 GroupNokia announced the Lumia 1520 at the end of October, at its packed Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi, alongside the Lumia 1320 and the Lumia 2520 tablet. At the time, it said little about the phone’s release, other than it would be out before the end of the year. Now, Carphone Warehouse has become the first retailer to put the phone up for pre-order.

It’s not going to come cheap though, as although the phone can be yours for free, you’ll need to pay a substantial monthly fee of £38 for two-years. This provides unlimited calls and texts, and a healthy 2GB of data, but it’s only a 3G connection. If you want to have 4G, then the phone is going to cost you £20 up front and £48 per month. You do get 12GB of data to use though.

The Lumia 1520 is Nokia’s first attempt at a smartphone/tablet hybrid, and it has jumped in with both feet. The screen measures 6-inches and has a 1080p resolution, and on the back is another of its impressive PureView cameras, this time with 20-megapixels. Nokia has chosen the quad-core Snapdragon 800 to power the phone, and installed the very latest version of Windows Phone 8.

So, a big phone with an equally big price. Other deals are sure to turn up, but at the moment you’re going to need to visit Carphone Warehouse to secure your Lumia 1520. It’s expected to be in your hands on December 6.
