The U.S. network Verizon will hold an event on July 23, where according to sources who’ve received invitations to the New York presentation say it’s teasing, “The next generation of one of its most popular family of devices.” Although it hasn’t confirmed it, we’re expecting these new phones to slot into the Verizon exclusive Droid range.
These are Android devices specifically made for the carrier, which only find their way out of the country under a different name. For example, the original Droid was renamed the Motorola Milestone when it came to the UK, but the recent Droid DNA has never been released here at all.
Several leaks over the past month have told us to be on the look out for several new Motorola phones, a company which has made various Droid-branded devices for Verizon in the past, so we imagine its these which will be launched at the end of the month.
There is the possibility we’ll see three phones, the Droid Mini, Droid Ultra and Droid Ultra Maxx. The Ultra was leaked on Motorola’s website recently, and should be equipped with a 4.7-inch screen, a dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera. The Maxx version will likely be identical except for a far higher capacity battery. As for the Droid Mini, we can only guess by its name that it will be smaller than the Ultra.
We’ll have to wait and see if Motorola rebrands the phones for sale internationally, or if it plans to continue concentrating on the American market, as it has done for some time. We’ll find out after July 23.
