Huawei announced the Ascend P6 last month, and now it’s yours to buy if you head to the right store here in the UK. This is something of an achievement, as in the past Huawei has either been very slow at releasing its new hardware, or simply not bothered to put them on sale outside of China.
So, as we can see, that’s not the case for the Ascend P6, so why the change of strategy? It’s clear Huawei sees the Ascend P6 as a flagship device, and one which could make the manufacturer a household name in the UK and Europe, hence its wide release. Apple has proved many times that it’s an effective strategy to announce and then quickly put on sale a new product, and Huawei has obviously been paying attention.
The Ascend P6 has been given a £330 SIM-free price tag, which is a little less than we first expected, through Carphone warehouse, while Clove Technology will sell you a black P6 for £340, with the white and pink versions expected soon. Carphone Warehouse also has a selection of contract deals with the P6, where the phone is yours for free with a £21 per month, two-year contract.
For your money, you get the world’s thinnest smartphone – just 6.18mm thick – a 4.7-inch touchscreen with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, a quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera. It’s also one of the most attractive phones Huawei has produced, and runs Android 4.2.2, the most recent version of Google’s operating system. If the Ascend P6 looks good, then it’s on sale today.
